Ault Watering Schedule Clarification

Non-Potable Watering Will Be Available May 1st for the Conestoga Neighborhood
Is Archived
No

We would like to address some confusion regarding the water schedules and provide an explanation as to why there are differences.

The Town of Ault has two separate water systems that operate in different ways. The first system is the potable water system. This is the treated water that comes into everyone’s homes used for drinking, cooking, bathing, etc. This potable water system is used to water landscaping in homes that are not on the Town’s non-potable system. The water restrictions are not specified in town code, as they are adjusted yearly based on many factors reviewed annually.

The second water system is the Non-Potable water system. This is the well water (non-treated) that only serves certain areas of town, including the Conestoga neighborhood. Non-potable water systems are connected to sprinkler systems and used for watering landscaping. The water restrictions for the non-potable system are specified in the Ault Municipal Code and do not change annually.

When it comes to watering restrictions, these systems have slightly different requirements. These requirements are set to ensure that everyone has sufficient water pressure and water available for use.

  1. The current issued restrictions for the POTABLE water system are the ones that were sent out by the Town earlier this summer.
    1. Even numbered houses – Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday
    2. Odd numbered houses – Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday
    3. Watering is prohibited between the hours of 10:00 am and 5:00 pm
  2. The restrictions for the NON-POTABLE water system are listed in Ault Municipal Code 13.04.400(2)(A) and 13.04.400(2)(B).
    1. Even numbered houses – Water on even numbered days
    2. Odd numbered houses – Water on odd numbered days
    3. Watering is prohibited between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm
    4. The use of potable water for landscaping is prohibited in your property has a non-potable system.

Letters were given to a group of residents who were observed to have a significant amount of water running through the drain pan in the rear lots. These letters were a reminder of the restrictions on the non-potable water system. If you are complying with the restrictions, you can disregard the letter. If you are not complying with the restrictions, please adjust your watering schedule appropriately.

We are sorry for any confusion that may have occurred reference the water systems. Thank you for taking the time to understand the water systems within our community. If you have any questions, please contact our Town Administrator, Sharon, at 970-834-2844.
